NARS will make your matte dreams come true, fact. For Christmas, I picked up another Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (£20) in the ultimate wine-stained shade, Cruella. This jumbo crayon combines the delicate application of a pencil with the coverage of a lipstick, making for a flawless, matte finish with a long-lasting, punchy pigment. Cruella is a dark, blue-toned red which is universally flattering and even creates the illusion of whiter teeth (winner!).

Get your mouth around it, you'll love it!

I'm a bit of a slut when it comes to SPF, I dabble with my foundation, smooth it on in moisturiser and slather it across my limbs inconsistently with little or no consideration for factor protection. But currently, I'm very much committed to Bioderma Photoderm Max Crème (£14.10). This tinted SPF is dewy sunshine in a bottle that packs in a generous factor 50 for under £15. The fresh finish is perfect for minimal make-up days (I often wear it for running and gymming) and offers a surprisingly thorough coverage (add a touch of cream blush with an eyelash curl for wide-awake radiance). The cream comes in light and golden shades and a pea-sized dollop will see you through the day.

Have you tried Bioderma's SPF range? Comment with deets below if so!

As a lover of liner and late nights, an eye primer is essential. This offering from NARS brings a barely-there base that's as good as glue. The light cream formula dries comfortably without a trace, leaving an invisible, adhesive foundation for eye makeup that lasts all day and night. My lids are big into it. NARS Cosmetics Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (£19.50)

Today, I'd like to shout out the bargain balm that is the Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter (£3.20) This cult beauty is made of gentle ingredients (olive oil, chamomile and vanilla) is rich in texture and has a scrumptious scent, similar to that of cake mix. As well as being the answer to a smooth derriere, BBB makes for soft, sweet skin all over by providing a soft velvety base for makeup (my foundation blends beautifully overtop); soothing and protecting dry, chapped skin; adding moisture to nails and cuticles or as a nourishing, overnight face mask. It's the baby aisle's answer to Elizabeth Arden and I highly recommend.

Tip: Topshop polish is da bomb. Think polka dot packaging, speedy dry time and opaque coverage in one coat; the DIY mani dream. This metallic glitter-gold shade is called Crystal Clouds (£6).

The best balms come from facialists and the french. Nuxe Reve de Miel (£9.50) is a creation of the latter. This deliciously rich balm works to comfort, soothe and soften dry and chapped lips. Ever since I picked up a pot in Paris a year ago, my chops haven't been able to get enough of the stuff. The matte texture is soft, spreadable and non-sticky with a beeswax scent. I always reach for this in the winter, it's like an overnight moisture masque for your lips (it works particularly well as a follow up to the Lush lip scrub too). For a daytime lipstick-base, I favour the formulation in stick (£5.50), whilst lighter on the lips, it protects ones pout just as well.
